This policy describes the Volume Flow Chrome extension, including its custom preset feature introduced in version 1.3.0. Volume Flow adjusts and optionally normalizes the audio of individual browser tabs.
Information processed on your device
Volume Flow handles the following information locally in Chrome:
- Tab audio: When you activate volume control or normalization, the selected tab's output audio passes through local audio processing and returns to your audio output. This can include music, videos, or conversation audio if you use the extension on a web call. Volume Flow does not request microphone or video capture, transcribe speech, or analyze the meaning of the audio.
- Open-tab information: The extension reads open-tab identifiers, titles, URLs, and audio/mute status to identify the current tab, find other audio tabs, and switch to a tab you select. It displays website icons obtained from Chrome's local favicon service.
- Live control settings: Per-tab volume, mute-related state, and normalization settings are kept in memory for the active capture session.
- Saved preset buttons: When you save custom presets, the extension stores four whole-number percentages from 0 to 600 on your device. These four numbers are the only persistent extension setting, stored under
volumePresetsinchrome.storage.local. They are not associated with tab identifiers, titles, URLs, or audio, and are not synced to other devices.
This information is used only to provide the extension's audio controls and tab display. Accessing it locally is still data handling, even though it is not sent to the developer.
Recording, transmission, and sharing
Volume Flow does not create audio recordings, upload audio, or transmit tab titles, URLs, or control settings to the developer or other parties. It does not contact external favicon services. There are no accounts, advertising, analytics, tracking services, or remote processing servers in the extension. All audio-processing code is bundled with the extension.
The developer does not receive, sell, or share the audio, tab information, or preset values processed by the extension. Volume Flow does not use this information for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness, lending, or purposes unrelated to its tab-audio controls.
Retention and your controls
Audio passes through short, temporary buffers used for real-time processing. These are not retained as recordings. Volume Flow does not store a browsing-history log, tab titles or URLs, or live tab volume and normalization settings in persistent extension storage.
The four saved preset percentages remain after you close the popup or restart Chrome. You can replace them in the pencil editor and select Save, or choose Defaults and then Save to restore 100%, 200%, 400%, and 600%. Defaults changes only the draft until saved, and Cancel discards the draft. Editing or saving presets does not change the current audio. Uninstalling the extension removes its saved preset values.
Closing the popup leaves an active audio session running. Reset ends capture for that tab, returns its volume to 100%, and turns normalization off; it does not change saved preset buttons. Closing the tab, ending the capture session, reloading or disabling the extension, or restarting Chrome also ends the corresponding in-memory session. Uninstalling the extension stops its operation. Chrome manages its own browser history and favicon cache separately.
Permissions
- activeTab: Grants temporary access to the tab where you invoke the extension, enabling user-initiated audio capture.
- tabs: Provides the tab information needed to identify the current tab and other audio tabs and switch between them.
- tabCapture: Routes the selected tab's audio through local volume and normalization processing.
- offscreen: Keeps the audio-processing document active when the popup is closed.
- favicon: Retrieves website icons through Chrome's local favicon endpoint.
- storage: Saves only the four custom preset percentages locally so the buttons remain available across popup sessions and browser restarts.
Limited Use
Volume Flow's use of information received from Chrome APIs follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Audio, tab information, and saved preset values are used only for the extension's disclosed tab-volume and normalization features; they are not transmitted to the developer, used for advertising, sold, or made available for human review by the developer.
Support and other services
For privacy questions or extension support, email hi@onlytk.xyz. If you choose to send a support message, the developer can receive the information you include in that message. This is separate from the extension, which does not automatically send audio or tab information with a support request.
This policy covers the extension. The Chrome Web Store, the websites you visit, and any service you use to contact support operate under their own policies.
Changes
This policy will be updated when Volume Flow's data practices change. The date above identifies the current policy version.
